“That’s some fish hanging on the wall,” I say to Darren as he buttons his shirt. “Where’d you catch it?”
“I cant tell you that,” he says with a smirk.
There is a buzz in the air before the ceremony. A Groomsmen runs past me to the bathroom, half-shaven. Anther is already dressed and relaxing at the table. A third is calling out last minute questions in rapid fire. Everything needs to be perfect. It is.
I’m photographing him near the large window in their living room.
“Chin up just a bit, look out the window. Now, eyes to me.”
Darren names the location of his trophy pike, slips on his suit jacket and just like that, he’s ready.
Ready to see his bride. Ready to put a ring on her finger. Ready to be Mr. and Mrs.
The air outside is cool. Crisp with a little bite from the wind. Dark clouds hover low in the sky, but the threat of rain seems insignificant.
There are more people in the backyard than the 125 wooden chairs can accommodate. The men enter through a clearing in the trees. Darren waits at the alter and all at once there she is.
Rachael and her mom turn the corner from the house walking hand-in-hand.
What was once two is now one. What is now joined, let no one separate.
Congratulations Darren and Racheal! In your new life together Tracey and I wish you bent rods, tight lines and the joy of experiencing life together.
Thank you for allowing us to photograph your wedding day. It was an honour.
